In the Krishna-Godavari basin of India's eastern offshore region, thin-bedded channel, levee and distal lobe deposits often show rapid lithological changes at centimeter scale. This variation is well below the vertical resolution of standard logging techniques. Reserves in such reservoirs may be underestimated and the lithological qualities of these reservoirs often remain unresolved.

A new technique using borehole image-driven advanced formation evaluation, provided significantly improved gas-saturation calculations. Across a seven-meter interval, the new method assessed an 80% gas saturation, while standard-resolution logs indicated only 15% gas saturation.
